The story of Magneto Special Anodes begins in 1957, when Dr. Henri Beer applied for the patent of the titanium anode. Since then, the company has been through tremendous development.

The principle of metal plating is almost identical for all applications.

The metal to be plated is dissolved in the electrolyte and the object to be plated is cathodically polarized. Our anodes close the electrical loop. They are designed to ensure a long lifespan, stable geometry, with lower environmental issues like lead, superior strength and the best possible performance in many industrial processes including;

  • Electro galvanizing (zinc plating), including steel strip plating (EGL)
  • Electro tinning (tin plating), including steel strip plating (ETL)
  • Chromium plating (including trivalent chromium), including steel strip plating (ECL)
  • Hard chromium plating
  • Nickel & Zinc-Nickel plating
  • Copper plating (including Reverse Pulse Plating)

Our anodes also find application in many metal finishing applications such as electrophoretic deposition (e.g. electrocoating) and aluminum anodizing applications.

Copper Foil

The manufacturing of copper foil is a high-end industry in which copper is electrodeposited from an electrolyte onto a rotating drum. The electric loop is closed again by positioning anodes on opposite sides of the drum. During the process, the copper foil grows on the drum. The main application for this is in batteries for telephones. Due to the demands of decreasing foil thicknesses, the specifications in this market are demanding.

Automotive Industry

Within this market, there is a large variety of products that needs a functional or decorative plated layer, which is often chromium, or zinc-nickel. The products can be steel or metal-based, but there are also many plastic components that require a plated layer. Given the large number of vehicles produced this market is demanding regarding reliability and reproducibility.

Precious Metal Plating

Precious metal plating concerns the deposition of a thin layer of precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, rhodium, palladium or their alloys onto a surface.

This plating process is widely used for example in small batches of jewelry, and dental applications, to various continuous plating processes in the production of semiconductors, connectors and other parts for the electronics industry. Precious metal deposition processes may in some cases be electroless but most of today's applications and advanced baths require the use of electric current. In these so-called electrodeposition processes, depending on the exact application, either soluble anodes or inert Titanium Anodes may be used.

E-coating

E-coating is an abbreviation for electrophoretic coating, where the coating materials (resins, pigments, additives, etc.) are dispersed in water and held in a bath. The parts to be coated are immersed in the solution and an electrical current is passed through the bath using the parts as an electrode, causing the coating materials to adhere to the surface. The anodes once again close the electrical loop.

Printed Circuit Board

The PCB market sees electrical components being plated with mainly copper, but also tin, nickel and gold. This is a highly demanding market where the combination of electrolyte and anode will highly influence the end result when looking at the influence of the chemical components such as levelers, anti-foaming agents are similar additives.

Canning Industry

The can industry is a high volume market in which coils of steel are being plated with tin, typical applications include beverage cans and food cans. Within the industry there is a change away from lead anodes and the use of PSA (phenol sulfonic acid), towards the usage of MSA (methane sulfonic acid). This is also a demanding industry where lifetime and minimum production stops are required.
