Evoqua Helps Hospital Meet Their Disinfection Requirements

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service Selects Remote On-Site Electrochlorination for Hospital Drinking Water

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service operates 10 Hospitals in Queensland for Queensland Health, the state’s public health Department which is responsible for all hospitals in Queensland.

Especially in remote regions, hospital water supplies are highly dependent on the local municipal water supply system. In times when chlorine residual is low in the supplied water, additional disinfection is required to maintain high water quality.

Challenge

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service wanted to select a disinfection technology for their drinking water that was suitable for the remoteness of the location, low safety risk from chemical handling, minimum operator intervention, and attractive return on investment.

Testing chlorine residual was traditionally done by hospital staff using a test kit which did not ensure continuous safe disinfection levels. Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service were looking at a system that could always guarantee disinfection levels were achieved.

Solution

Evoqua selected its On-Site Electro-Chlorination technology and the Depolox® 5 analyser as the most appropriate disinfection technology which meets all of Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service’s requirements.

The OSEC® L’s system design is compact, easy to install and easy to use. It offers a modern colour touch screen control and display, plug and play installation and a footprint roughly 50% smaller than other on-site generators.

Because this innovative water disinfection system creates sodium hypochlorite on-site and on-demand, it eliminates concerns associated with transportation and storage of liquified chlorine gas or commercial sodium hypochlorite solutions, making it ideal for many remote applications requiring chlorination.

Salt bags can be easily delivered and stored on site with no handling of hazardous chemicals required.

Results

There are a number of OSEC L installations in Queensland hospitals. Even though space in the plant room is restricted, Evoqua designed the installation layout to provide good process efficiencies as well as easy access for maintenance.

Evoqua delivered a complete disinfection system including chlorine analyser to control chlorine dosing and residual management of the hospital drinking water system.
