BEAVER DAM, Wis. & PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Evoqua (NYSE: AQUA) today announced the commissioning of its ETS-UV™ disinfection systems for the drinking water facility for the Moon Township Municipal Authority.
Evoqua was selected to supply two ETS-UV SX-635-15 systems to the Fern Hollow Water Treatment plant that supplies water through more than 170 miles of water mains to Moon Township, Pittsburgh Intl Airport, The U.S. Air Force Reserve, PA National Guard bases and small portions of local townships. The Moon Township Municipal Authority treats a blend of Ohio River surface water and well water from a radial collector well and two gravel pack wells.
ETS-UV disinfection systems effectively mitigate the threat of waterborne pathogens and ensure water is healthy and free from harmful microorganisms. Nationwide, ETS-UV systems are installed into drinking water facilities to provide additional protection to effectively inactivate chlorine tolerant organisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
ETS-UV was selected because of advanced features such as automated wipers, remote and local telemetry, and in addition, systems have been validated by an independent third party for drinking water in accordance with the US EPA Design Guidance Manual and NSF/ANSI Standard 61. Each chamber will have six medium UV lamps with automated wipers and will treat a peak flow of up to 5 MGD.
“ETS-UV™ disinfection systems will help us to achieve an extra barrier of protection for our customers. We pride ourselves in the quality of water provided, and the Evoqua UV systems are demonstrated via third party validation to be an effective barrier to the chlorine tolerant species. We have been impressed with the quality of after-sales support from Evoqua,” said John Riley, P.E., General Manager Moon Township Municipal Authority.
In July last year, Evoqua moved its World Headquarters to the Central Business District in downtown Pittsburgh. In addition to Moon Township, some of Evoqua’s water treatment installations in the Pittsburgh region include the water used in animal habitats at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, and disinfection of the water at the world-famous fountain at Point State Park. Evoqua is a member of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and a partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers; as well, the Evoqua Zamboni helps take care of the frozen water of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
